Challenge update - week 3

This has been a tougher week with tight month-end deadlines at work and my son being diagnosed with mono (glandular fever). He is doing okay, but has not really eaten well or slept well for a week.

Proud of: 2 days of biking (33K in total), keeping a positive and helpful attitude, walking by the seaside, taking supplements and packing lunch for work.

Really need to focus on (or add to my next Challenge ...): balance & strength exercises, got re-aquainted with evil coffee machine due to stress at work (hopefully only temporarily), flossing, finding Monika-time.
Going into my last week I will again focus on making healthy choices for me and my family. And look after my son of course!

Challenge update - week 2

Second week into my challenge and I feel great! I have noticed that I make more healthly choices and that my posture has improved. I sit, stand and walk taller and straighter every day, which is an un-expected but pleasant side-effect of me striving for my challenge goals.

Going well: avoiding the evil coffee machine, taking supplements regularly, laughing kindly at myself, flossing, biking, walking, reflecting over and being grateful for all the good things in my life.

Need to focus more on: stretching, balance and strength exercises, chaining perspectives and trying to see where the other person is coming from in stressful or conflict situations, packing lunch, finding Monika-time and doing fun things for me.

Off outside now to do some gardening. Have a great week everyone!

An excellent little film

Watched SOMERS TOWN by British director Shane Meadows (This Is England) yesterday and really enjoyed it. It is a 2008 film about two teenage boys who meet and make friends in London. It is rather short (68 mins) which I like because the director will not be tempted to include any un-necessary plots or side characters. Good acting, good script and a feel-good ending. I recommend you watch it!

Challenge update – week 1

One week into this Challenge and I feel good about the changes I am making!
Here is how the week went:
  • Packed lunch every day 5 days in a row!
  • Only had one coffee from the “evil vending machine”
  • Biked to commuter bus stop one day: Result: sore bum / happy mind!
  • Managed “Monika-time” both Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon! Followed a beginner’s yoga workout DVD at home focusing on basic postures and stretching.
  • Walked for one hour with my son sleeping in his push-chair in the lovely weather today (picture: the bridge in the background is the Öresundbridge, connecting Sweden and Denmark).
  • Thought about what I great life I have several times this week!

Next week I would like to improve on:
  • Regular flossing.
  • Taking my multi-vitamin & mineral supplement every day.
  • More brushing teeth standing on one leg – and other balance exercises.
  • Hopefully bike twice to the commuter bus stop.
  • More stretching.

30 day Challenge – for the second time.

I am now back from vacation and feel ready to start a new 30 day Challenge. This time I have decided to have many small goals, in order to feel good about accomplishing some of them.
Starting Monday August 10th here is what I will do:

AVOID the evil coffee vending machine in work
TAKE a multi-vitamin & mineral supplement every morning
FLOSS
BIKE to commuter bus stop twice per week (2 x 7.5K x 2 days = 30K)
ALLOW one evening per week for Monika-time (to work out, see a friend or ….)
BRUSH teeth standing on one leg to improve ankle strength and balance
LAUGH kindly at myself if I do something silly or stupid
TRY to put myself in the other person’s place before I think or say something un-kind
PACK lunch for work (and save about $7 per day)
INCORPORATE some stretching during my work day
REMEMBER to be grateful for my wonderful life every day
Update on my progress will be posted here at least once per week.
